chromatography

Today we learnt what Chromatography and did a little experiment.

What is Chromatography? Chromatography- the process of separating a mixture based on the pigments.

Pigments- Pigments can be separated based on their solubility. More soluble the pigment the higher they move with the water. The less soluble the lower they will stay on the chromatography paper.

AIM- To separate the different pigments from ink using chromatography
HYPOTHESIS- I think that it will change colour.
EQUIPMENT- Felt tip pen, filter paper strips, test tube, measuring cylinder, pencil.
Method-
1- Draw a line across the filter paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom.
2- Draw a coloured dot in the centre of the line.
3- Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube.
4- Place the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side. MAKE SURE THE PENCIL LINE/ DOT IS NOT IN THE WATER.
5- Wait for 5 minutes and observe the results

Steam week 7

Today we are learning about steam a problem is rising sea levels.

We are going to find out a way to use sea rising sea levels to make fuel and to make electricity.

We are also going to find out  a way to reduce the amount of sea level by digging halls in the sea so that it will suck the water out of the sea. We are also going to find  way to stop antarctic from melting

week 5

The principal is the most important person in the school because he/she would have to runs the school and are the leader to the other staff. If you are try to get into the school for a new start of the year the principal would ask the other staff to help him/her to show the there people or kids around. That is why I think the  principal is the most important person in the school.

science filtering

Hi reader today in science we are learning about what is filtering and I will tell you some of the key word. We are also making a little experiment with filtering.

key work:
Filtering is separating diffterent sized particles out of a mixture. It can't dissolved if it's a same size.
Solute - sugar = solid was dissolved
Solvent - water = Liquid that does dissolving
Solution  - mixture of two or things

Experiment:
Make a mixture then separate it.
We are using is copper sulfate- light blue, liquid, transparent.
Sodium carbonate - colourless, liquid, translucent.

Equipment:

Sodium carbonate

Copper sulfate

Conical flask

Stirring Rod

200mL Beaker

Funnel

Filter paper

Hypothesis:
I think it will separate both of the liquid but I think it will still have a tint of blue in it.

Method:

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

Observations and Discussion: When we added the to liquiit went dark blue and it had
