Calypso week 3

Today in English we were asked to describe what this type of music sounds like to us. to me, it sounds like you are at a really nice beach and it's really hot and you could have a really nice swim in the light blue sea. I don't know how timothy sounded. his voice sounded like the waves in the sea. here is a definition i found on google                                                                         👇

Calypso is a style of Afro-Caribbean music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago during the early to the mid-19th century and spread to the rest of the Caribbean Antilles and Venezuela by the mid-20th century

week 2

Today we were asked to tell you what a schooner looks like. The schooner usually has four sails; it has a long deck and at the front of the ship, there is a pole holding the sails. It looks like you can fit a lot of people on it but I'm not really sure. It's quite big in size and looks like you can fit lots of luggage on it. The one thing I wonder is if the ship has an underneath area.

Pita Pockets

Pita Pockets

I was in a team of 3 and I was the Team leader. I had to make sure the other students
collected the right ingredients and followed my instructions. I grated the cheese,
cut up the ham and washed the lettuce. One of the students is dairy free so she
didn't have cheese or sauce. I was pleased with how my Pita pocket turned out and
it tasted delicious. I would like to make it at home.
I  dried the dishes and wiped down the bench and table. I helped another student put things away.
Even though I was very busy I enjoyed being the team leader.

  • 1 Pita Bread per person

  • Lettuce

  • Cheese - grated

  • Tomato - sliced or diced

  • Carrot - grated

  • Cucumber - sliced

  • Red Onion - rings or finely chopped

  • Other vegetables: Celery, Capsicum, tinned Beetroot etc

  • Sauces – Choice of Tomato, BBQ, Mayo, Hummus, Sweet Chilli

  1. Prepare the vegetables and meat as required

  2. Place pita bread in microwave for 20 seconds (optional)

  3. Cut open the pita bread along the crease to make an opening

  4. Fill pita pockets with required fillings and sauces

OUR POLICIES

this is my POLICIES

  1. Be able to have a driver's license at 13  if you are sensible
I  have to walk a lot and I wish I had a car. I’m actually pretty good at driving. It’ll save me from taking the bus all the time and I won’t get run over.

  2.  Legalize weed. It helps with stress and it’s not that harmful. People will smoke it anyway even if it’s illegal so you should just make it legal. It would also be safer for people if it was legal. If people grow their own they know where it’s coming from.

  3. We should not have a four day work week . People will get stressed because you’re doing so much work in a day. It will be hard to hangout with friends after school.

  4.  School uniforms should be cheaper. They are really expensive. People would have more money for food and paying bills.

The Design Process/ home economics

 the design process

We made pancakes for our Home Economics assessment.

Miss Birth was our stakeholder. We asked her what she liked & disliked. We wrote a shopping list and found out the pricing on the Pak n save website.

Our group did a time management plan for our recipe making.

This is a recipe that we are using. ( Makes 3 pancakes)

Sunday pancakes.

1 cup Self Raising Flour

2 Tbsp White Sugar

½ tsp finely grated lemon zest (optional)

1 cup  Milk (or Soy/Rice milk)

1 egg, lightly beaten

30g Butter, melted (or margarine)

To serve:

2 bananas, sliced

1 punnet blueberries (or frozen berries defrosted)

Flavoured Syrup - Butterscotch, Caramel, Vanilla, Maple or Honey Maple.

Method:

  1. Sift the Self Raising Flour and Sugar into a bowl.

  2. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients.

  3.  Add the lemon zest, Milk, egg and melted butter/margarine and whisk to combine.

  4. Heat a large non-stick frying pan over medium low heat and grease lightly with butter or oil.

  5. For each pancake, place 2 tablespoons of batter into the pan.

Cook for 2 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface.

Turn and cook for a further 1 to 2 minutes or until the pancakes are cooked through.

Evaluation

This is the feedback  we got from Miss Birch.

Kineka and Candesse and Chloe

Thanks for the delicious pancakes last week, it was such a sweet surprise!

I loved the colours of the toppings - the vibrant rich colours of the fruit contrasted nicely against the soft white cream.

The pancakes were delicious and the batter was very smooth. I liked the overall presentation !

chromatography

Today we learnt what Chromatography and did a little experiment.

What is Chromatography? Chromatography- the process of separating a mixture based on the pigments.

Pigments- Pigments can be separated based on their solubility. More soluble the pigment the higher they move with the water. The less soluble the lower they will stay on the chromatography paper.

AIM- To separate the different pigments from ink using chromatography
HYPOTHESIS- I think that it will change colour.
EQUIPMENT- Felt tip pen, filter paper strips, test tube, measuring cylinder, pencil.
Method-
1- Draw a line across the filter paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom.
2- Draw a coloured dot in the centre of the line.
3- Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube.
4- Place the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side. MAKE SURE THE PENCIL LINE/ DOT IS NOT IN THE WATER.
5- Wait for 5 minutes and observe the results

Steam week 7

Today we are learning about steam a problem is rising sea levels.

We are going to find out a way to use sea rising sea levels to make fuel and to make electricity.

We are also going to find out  a way to reduce the amount of sea level by digging halls in the sea so that it will suck the water out of the sea. We are also going to find  way to stop antarctic from melting

week 5

The principal is the most important person in the school because he/she would have to runs the school and are the leader to the other staff. If you are try to get into the school for a new start of the year the principal would ask the other staff to help him/her to show the there people or kids around. That is why I think the  principal is the most important person in the school.

science filtering

Hi reader today in science we are learning about what is filtering and I will tell you some of the key word. We are also making a little experiment with filtering.

key work:
Filtering is separating diffterent sized particles out of a mixture. It can't dissolved if it's a same size.
Solute - sugar = solid was dissolved
Solvent - water = Liquid that does dissolving
Solution  - mixture of two or things

Experiment:
Make a mixture then separate it.
We are using is copper sulfate- light blue, liquid, transparent.
Sodium carbonate - colourless, liquid, translucent.

Equipment:

Sodium carbonate

Copper sulfate

Conical flask

Stirring Rod

200mL Beaker

Funnel

Filter paper

Hypothesis:
I think it will separate both of the liquid but I think it will still have a tint of blue in it.

Method:

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.
